Red and Black Froghopper (Cercopis vulnerata)
Description:

A rather startling insect found by the side of a path. At first sight I assumed it was a beetle but now believe it to be a Red and Black Froghopper (Cercopis vulnerata). 7-8mm long. On Ribwort Plantain though I have no evidence to connect it with this host in particular.
