I am not that knowledgeable on inverts but it does look like C.perla which has a bluish tinge and black band markings like your's, I got my information out of Collins guide to British insects but have a Google too and see what you think.

You may be right -

It looks the part, and the habitat is as described. The web (and my book) only show a couple of the dozen or more UK species, so I was not too sure about putting a name to it, though.
Thanks - and apologies if this appears twice - it seemed to vanish on the first attempt!
