Description:

Lichen on rocks in high mountain area of the highlands, crustose with segmented thallus of dark grey, with borders a sandy-yellow colour. Plentiful black apothecia with paler ill-defined border

Lecidea or Porpidia

Part of a large group of species that require microscopic examination.

It is a pity, however, that we do not have a larger photograph with the surface features shown in detail. The mixture of grey and yellow is not unlike Porpidia melinodes, which has a surface with minute soralia. If I imagine really hard, I can almost see them, but not quite.
