Is this an otter?

Observed: 27th May 2013 By: Photoscot2000

Came along a field with sheep in and disappeared from view. Reappeared out of a hole on the near side of the fence, looked at me and then scurried off down another hole in the sandy banking. It was near a stream which ran into the sea about 100m away.
I did see an otter in the sea nearby - swimming from rock to rock - but this animal looks a lot darker with lighter patches than the otter I saw in the sea.

Welcome to iSpot.

You are right to notice this looks different to otters as it is a mink, the very dark fur is a good indication and otters never have a white flash on the neck/chest.

There are plenty of photos of mink and otter here on iSpot just use the ticker tape above and the search facility.
