Description:

I thought this was a newt at first. But I have newts in my pond, and they are normally green or browny colours. This fella was orange.

This is a difficult one as

This is a difficult one as the stripe characteristics aren't that clear. I'm leaning towards a smooth newt as the stripe seems to fade out in the middle and then appear again above the hind limbs. On a palmate newt I would expect it to be unbroken and the same intensity all the way along, whereas here it seems most intense behind the head (which is more like a smooth newt).
