Dead Frog

Description:

I had no idea that spawn took up so much of the female frog body mass. This one had obviously been dead for some time but the spawn still looked viable. I moved it to water but have no idea whether or not any spawn survived.

Unfortunately -

Fertilisation is external, so if the eggs were not laid, then they probably won't be viable. Some frogs can be parthenogenetic, I think (not requiring fertilisation) but as far as I know it's never been reported in UK species.
