Nigel take care with 'arting' pictures. It usually deepens or intensifies colour-tones sometimes making IDs difficult.
Someone from fungi will come and you'll get an ID, I bet.

Cryptococcus macerans

Looks like Martin's observations of the above-named species. Try searching for it.

( = someone from lichens, hence the lack of a more official ID).

Search Google Images for Cryptococcus macerans..
YOU really should post the ID and hopefully get some agreements. I guess that someone else might do if you dwell. It doesn't have to be right but it's a very good start.
