Saw this splendid tree in Elswick Newcastle. It could be some kind of Willow perhaps?

There is little doubt that these trees are 'splendid' in the context of the townscape, ladybug CST is right.
They are a Salix, but not sure of the species - not convinced about pure 'alba', as the leaves, up close, don't look downy (i.e. white) enough. I wondered if they might more likely be 'cricket-bat willow', which is, I believe, a variety of alba?
