Description:

Caterpillar, 50-55 mm long, banded in twig-like camouflage,slight green hue underneath, found on clothing when gardening, adopts rigid twig-like posture when disturbed which is maintained for a long time (see second photo). Front legs (3 per side) display small claws. Larger than any looper I've seen.

The foot pattern points to

The foot pattern points to this family of moths, but there are not many looper caterpillars that grow to this size. I think this could be one of the Beauties - e.g. Oak Beauty - but I don't know enough about caterpillars to distinguish them.
