Caterpillar - Nymphalidae?

Observed: 9th June 2013 By: Joe BottingInvertebrates expert
DSC_0213 sawfly Yarrow or grass
Description:

Around 2-3 cm long, found on a grassy roadside with Yarrow and other low herbs, and under Hawthorn. Seems to be a pretty close match to some of the fritillaries in some of the details, but just doesn't match anything I've seen overall. I'm sure it's Lepidoptera, though - despite being convinced it was a sawfly when I first saw it...

Thanks Chris

That does look right - I'm impressed, as it's one I'd never heard of. :o)
