lasiocarpa is a very slender plant usually in fens or standing oligotrophic water - when you know it its very different

I just mentioned it because when I keyed this one out it came down to a choice of these two. Is it common for C. hirta to be less hairy? Most of the other plants had really hairy bases and fairly hairy leaves.

Carex hirta

When growing in wet places, it can be hairless except for the apex of the sheaths. (var sublaevis Hornem.)
