What makes it L. caesar? There are several similar species.

Good question. General insect books only illustrate L.caesar so I was hoping fellow Ispotters could help with the differences between species here.
I'd say Lucilia sericata from the yellow basicosta (not tegula, sorry) and 1 ad bristle on mid tibia ... very common ... commoner that caesar in my experience. Sadly, the field guides don't emphasise strongly enough that most of the flies they show have many almost identical species, which makes records for "L.caesar" and "Sarcophaga carnaria" very dubious unless the recorder has examined a specimen under a microscope ;)
