Strange small Buttercup

Description:

In a field full of Meadow and Creeping Buttercup, there was this one smaller (both flower and in stature) buttercup is this just an abnormal Meadow Buttercup?

The only alternative I can see ...

... (the leaves are wrong for Ranunculus parviflorus) is Ranunculus auricomus, and the habitat is wrong for that. I would go for Ranunculus acris, but if you could relocate it the basal leaves, fide Stace, would allow you to discriminate.

... as if something's got at the carpels and stamens (or they just didn't develop properly, which may be more likely as the flowers are consistent on the plant).
