There seem to be rather a lot of observations recently where empty brackets are being put up after the common name, even from people with high reputations. For example...

Is it choice on their part or a problem with the system? It seems an odd thing to do, especially for people who have used the site a lot. If you go to the effort of putting the brackets in, surely you can press 'Get recommended', too.

I have a feeling that after a recent software update the brackets are being generated by the system where the author fails to enter a scientific name. As you say it is happening a lot and was not happening before the update.

Update

Maybe that is it...

It would be nice if they could remedy it...it's all a bit messy and pointless.

Although

it perhaps makes it more visually obvious to a user that they have missed out something that should be there.

Old 2

I think this is probably more recent than some may think. If a field has been set up to always show the brackets every time on a new database and the old data is imported into it it will now show brackets where it did not before. And there is a lot of ‘stuff’ going on in the background at the moment.

moment

Yes, after my note I thought of that Ray.
You are most likely right, the Up?grade has been through the whole site and inserted () where no man has been before...
Never mind, I enjoyed the moment.
Talking of old, weren't we, what this about?

That's enough from me - bored. But maybe you should look for yourself - it's your reputation I'm checking!
Ha!

Seriously though you have a few No Observations, the last seems to be here

Were you using some sort of tracker perhaps - they are all important Nature places.

Interesting

Seems several other users have similar entries. They are all places and I know I’ve never given a place name as a title to an observation. I assume it is some sort of place holder for location info. Why you have nothing similar I’m not sure.
