Slow Worm Casualty

This slow worm was found on the road in a rural area. I am unsure whether its death was caused by a vehicle or a bird of prey. I am unaware of any cats in the area.

It doesn't look crushed as

It doesn't look crushed as you would expect if it was run over. It almost looks like it was sliced. I can't see puncture wounds that would make me think a cat. And I think a bird of prey would eat it rather than slice it and leave it. Also, I am very cynical about the attitude of many people when it comes to anything which resembles a snake...

Can you add the tag 'human cause' please?
Even if it was a cat, we domesticated them to act in this way, kill but not eat.
