Otiorhynchus

Charlie / Boris,

Thanks for the ID. What features indicate that it is that genus?

What would be needed to get to species level?

Boris Bueche's picture

Genus characteristics:

Otiorhynchus = rostrum with ears.

You see the pit-like antennal grooves between antennal base, and eye. This, plus rather large size, is pretty characteristic.

Your photos will be fine to confirm the species* - personally, I'm not experienced with armadillo (+ a lookalike, both imports to Britain).

* but not for me, sorry!

Thanks

I'll see whether I can find some relevant literature to work out the ID then.
