This butterfly was feeding on Plantago lanceolata along the sea wall in Ventnor.

Both the upper side and the spot pattern on the underside are consistent with the Common Blue.

Small Blue

Hi David, funnily enough I have been looking at Small Blue's today, they are tiny. They are also rather brown in colour with just a hint of blue in the male. The underside lacks those orange spots. Hope that helps.

Blue Butterflies!

Thanks Chris,I must admit I wasn't sure when I put it on and I don't think the illustration I have of it is very accurate-should have known better as I have seen common blues in this location before, all part of the learning process!
