Description:

Brown moth which looks similar to some underwings. This one was snapped quickly with a mobile phone while it was perched on a supermarket window-ledge.

Identification

I think that it is a Lesser Yellow Underwing. They have a large variation in colour and pattern of the forewings.

Dotted Clay is another

Dotted Clay is another contender, although it should be on the wing a month later than this. I think the wings are too broad for Lesser Yellow Underwing.
