Description:

I have somehow ended up studying carabids (among other soil beasties) for my MSc project! Struggling along with the old RES key until I can borrow the new one. Keyed this one to Calosoma which I am pretty sure it is not! It is 13mm long (excluding antennae), black with striated elytra. Any ideas where I may have gone wrong?

Strawberry Beetle?

There appears to be an antenna cleaning notch on the bottom end of front femora! Is that of any use.

Ah is that what that is, thanks.
Thanks also to scarabus for the ID, I can work backwards from that and find out where I went wrong!
