Description:

Quite a large fly associated with old, damp woodland. Looks a bit like a dark cranefly when flying. Difficult to photo against a gnarly-barked Alder.

Late

First day I have been able to get out for a while. It was nice to find this, but otherwise flies are so late here and there was very, very little around today, considering it is the last week of May. Hardly any flowers out at all.

However, a couple of Myopa to ID always keeps me happy!
