Grass snake spotted trying to drag toad accross grass to a nearby pond to eat it.

Great observation and photograph! I have seen grass snakes eating toads before but never managed to get a photo.

The toad has puffed itself up to appear larger, a typical defence against predation. The snake hasn't been fooled, though.
Grass snakes also seem immune from the toxin on toad skins.
It is rare to catch a British snake actually feeding - and to get such a great shot is even rarer!
By the bye, the word "toady" comes from the assistant of a fairground mountebank or con-man selling quack cures - who would swallow a toad whole, then drink the miracle cure to show its efficacy.
