How did you get on unlocking the back legs of this one?!! I'm still trying to find a consistently half-decent way to prise open the hind legs of Eristalini...

hopeless, just like the middle legs of (almost) all my Platypalpus. I've decided that probably a quick freeze and then pin them open might work, as one Platy I tried when impatient to pin it did open up. Otherwise they just snap if I try and force it. I let the right leg here dry with a pin slotted in, but was lucky to get even that. Fortunately it didn't prevent me from getting a good look at the important bits of this fly, though the images are poor - I'll try add some better ones
