Description:

The fly was in a sunny sheltered spot and seemed to be going through several cycles of waving its front legs and then resting them on the leaf. The other legs remained still. The composites show four camera frames prior to images 1 and 2.

cont.

A stationary small mite noted towards the left side of the images; it is not immediately obvious that the mite is triggering the fly’s behaviour.
