Description:

Adjacent to a shallow pond.
Female, I think newly emerged. Common blue can be ruled out on the basis of the thorax markings, particularly the antehumeral stripe. In 5 years of photographing damselflies here I have never found Variable and it is not known at this site. Southern can be discounted on grounds of habitat and location makes any of the other possible confusion species extremely unlikely if not impossible.

Yes, a female Azure. The square black mark in S8, the lack of a bar between the post ocular spots and the medium lobe on the rear of the pronotum not being heavily indented, all point to the Azure.
