Thanks Ian, I was thinking it might be close to carontonica, but yes I didn't think it could be ID'd for sure!

They are so interesting but so difficult, its quite tantalising!

Photography and field ID

I find it is often possible to catch and examine a specimen after photography. You don't necessarily have to take the specimen away, just look at it carefully and then release. Then you can look for details like colour of pollen basket, or the groove down the last segment of female Lasioglossum/Halictus that may not show up properly in your photos.
