Description:

The smaller of two in the same spot. Can anyone tell whether it's male or female from this single photo?

Male and female differences

This is probably a male common toad, as they tend to be considerably smaller than females, but I can't see nuptial pads in this photo.

If you see the toad again, listen out for croaking as this would indicate a male.

It looks rather small. I would think at this size it is probably too young to accurately sex.

Small

From memory it was quite small although I'm afraid I can't provide any measurements now. There was another one under the same tin sheet, which was probably about 50% larger.
