Close-up of a male Gadwall at RSPB's Old Moor Reserve
No interactions present.
The bird shows a characteristic of Gadwall - they are extremely late to moult into breeding plumage. The scattered brown feathers are from last year's eclipse or juvenile plumage. Other species will be in full breeding plumage any time from late autumn to early in the new year - months before most Gadwall males.
