Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus)
Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus)
Description:

The loch - sorry, lake - appears to have washed the soil away from under this tree. "Soil" is, perhaps, a misnomer: the contorted root system suggests that they have had to force their way around plenty of boulders.

I remember these (from 40 years ago)

If I recall correctly the location is Calf Close Bay.

Still there and growing!

Apart from having half its roots in mid air the tree seems to be doing pretty well. As far as Calf Close Bay is concerned, I can't find that name on any of my maps but it's just a little bit along the lochside - oops, lakeside - from Friar's Crag.

Place names

My recollection wasn't correct - Calf Close Bay is the next bay south (see OS 1:25000 maps, e.g. via http://www.streetmap.co.uk).
