Description:

Early-flowering pink-flowered rhododendron growing on a low-lying (about 700 ft asl) moorland. I can't place it any more precisely than Rhododendron ponticum sensu auct. Brit. = Rhododendron x superponticum Cullen, but the combination of flower color and early-flowering (it's ahead of other ponticum-type rhododendrons, even at sea-level) leads me to suspect that a species outside the ponticum group may be involved in its parentage. Similar plants are scattered about the moor.
