Hoof Fungus

Observed: 12th May 2013 By: anonymous spotter
Hoof Fungus

Hoof fungus showing geotropism. The spore surface on the base of the fungus needs to face the ground so that the spores can be released. When the tree was felled the hoof fungus had to twist its pattern of growth by 90 degrees so that the spores continue to fall down.

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
