gives 'Thallus of usually pendant, broad, sparingly divided, strap-like branches, sometimes reaching several cm, grey-green to grey, said to become brown-black in very exposed sites (Dobson), soredia absent; apothecia frequent, laminar or marginal. Widespread and locally common on tree trunks and branches, though very sensitive to sulphur dioxide pollution.'
