It was so placid and didn't mind me getting really close.
Reptiles are best photographed as they bask in the morning sun (assuming such exists!) They're still warming up (not being able to regulate their body temperature like mammals can), and hence not very active.
Once warmed up, they can they regulate temperature by seeking shade or sunlight as needed.
Some species bask mostly in direct sun, others under warm objects - hence the laying of tin sheets in suitable spots to encourage them.
