Young Mallard hunting. But what kind of insects do they eat?

In May there are lots of different flying insects over water, stoneflies, caddisflies and of course mayflies all emerge May/June time. I doubt it would bother jumping for midges or mosquitoes unless they were swarming and you would have noticed that!
