Deep Dale is a good butterfly site.
Thanks Debbie - I was so pleased not only to see the butterfly but also to manage to photograph it before frightening it away! Kept an eye out but only other butterflies I saw there yesterday were a small number of peacocks
I live near Sheffield so will definitely be returning to Deep Dale would love to see some more green hairstreaks & see what other butterflies are there, with the weather finally warming up. Lovely for flowers also - the cowslips are well on there way now, only saw one early purple orchid actually in flower. Have a nice photo of a sedge which I must also put on ispot - will have a stab at trying to identify it first!
Am I right in thinking that ispot posts are now linked to recording schemes? I expect might be a good idea to send records in somewhere else anyway, I've started keeping a note of any butterflies I've seen so far this year. Am member of Butterfly Consv but the Yorkshire Branch, so I'll have a look at BC website for where to send records for East Mids.
Best wishes, Alison Jinks
Yes, records from iSpot can now be passed on to recording schemes/local record centres if they ask from them, but at the moment this is not done automatically.
For the moment, I would suggest passing your butterfly records onto your local recorder. As you are in Sheffield, I know that the Sorby Natural history soc who are working towards a butterfly atlas and would be very grateful for any butterfly records, irrespective of common or more unusual species. Their website is www.sorby.org.uk.
Thanks Debbie - that's really useful, will definitely start sending them records.
Best wishes, Alison
