I think it is the stuff they pump out when feeling threatened... isn't it... i think you have it smudged on your finger!
I was going to suggest the same, although it's not something I know about with any certainty... still, looks very likely.
The yellow stuff is haemolymph (insect blood) it comes out of the knee joints when the ladybird is threatened, it contains toxins which deter predators, probably you could smell something unpleasant?
