The pale apex to the elytra mean that this is is either N. biguttatus, N. quadripunctatus, or
N. substriatus. Unfortunately I can't go any further than this.
I'm quite happy with that, didn't think I would be able to identify at all as photos weren't good. I studied them though and noticed the large eyes which pointed me in the direction of Notiophilus, not something I had identified before. Still learning with beetles but nice to know I was looking in the right direction!
