I've recently been trying to identify one of these amphibious crowfoots, but have been told you need flowers and mature fruits, the nectar pit character doesn't work because it changes shape as the petal ages, and many populations are hybrids. So I've given up on them for this life.
It seems that virtually all types of wildlife are a lot harder to pin down than I thought - A A Milne was right:
