Unidentified dermestid beetle

Observed: 24th April 2013 By: Joe BottingInvertebrates expert
dermestid indet.

Tiny (2 mm) dermestid (going by the antennae, legs and general jizz), but I can't match it up to anything as yet... the stripiness of the hair distribution on this little fuzzball is particularly problematic. Any help appreciated.

Is it definitely a dermestid?

Is it definitely a dermestid? I can't remember the family characters, but I would have guessed a scolytid from general appearance.

you're right...

Hi John, and thanks for that. It turns out it is indeed a scolytid (a group I'm really not familiar with), but with unusual, dermestid-like antennae. I've got a reasonable id to put up, so we'll see if anyone agrees...
