Description:

At this time of year the garden is home to a number of "uninvited guests" aka "weeds". This year I'm trying to identify and record them before waging war. Without flowers some are a bit of a challenge. This one is relatively easy with its characteristic leaves and deep tap root.
Edit: Two photos added; title changed to match Tim's ID. Many thanks.

Do you get Welsh poppy as a weed - this looks a little pale for P rhoeas?

Welsh Poppy

Tim, can you explain, please, why you ID this as Welsh Poppy rather than Common Poppy?

Thanks.

not really, it just looks

not really, it just looks like it! lots of side lobes about same size as terminal leaflet on big leaves, pale green leaves. Common poppy should have a basal rosette with larger terminal lobes and grey in colour.
Been out to double check the one in my garden - not sure 'weed' is the right word for such a wonderful plant!
We will find out when it flowers anyway!

Many thanks.

Weed: any plant in a place I don't want it, particularly if uninvited!

However, I suspect you've saved this one at least until it flowers!
