Not an easy angle, but the eyes appear hairy...a little description would make it easier to agree. Or, a photo from another angle...

Hi Ian,

Sorry, I agree entirely, I hadn't set out to photograph it, there was a Bee-fly in the garden and I was hoping to get a photo of that but missed it so took these two instead!

Agreed - eyes do look hairy, and after checking numerous photos to try to find a similar angle, I have failed to find anything that helps. However, I have also spent some time checking leg markings and these are certainly not Didea - so S. torvus seems reasonable and I stand to the correction!

I'll run with S. torvus.
