Eristalis intricaria
Description:

A dark, furry hoverfly with a buff tip to the abdomen, around 8mm on a Kingcup on a pond margin. Looped wing vein rules out Volucella spp. Yellow base to femurs rules out Merodon equestris, so think this is an Eristalis intricarius (actually intricaria if the latest taxonomic edicts are followed, but NBN and iSpot haven't updated the name yet).
