This was on a small Scots pine growing on the edge of grassland.

Which key did you use?

You are right...one of Britain's commonest flies and the dark antennae separate it from other hairy, yellow scathophagids.

Yes...really useful, isn't it! Plenty of other Scathophaga around, if you sweep...S. furcata seems to be everywhere at the moment.
