Yellow flower

mostly growing in groups (as second picture -badly focused!) All the flowers observed grew to about 10cm high. Found on spoil heap from gabro quarry very close to the sea.

Would be my guess. it can flower from January onwards: flowers appear before the leaves.

Stunted by the situation?

My picture of Colsfoot is something a bit taller, more slender, and not quite so dark in the stem, but I still think that this is it. Presumably the scree dries quickly and is not nutrient rich, so the plants are not doing just as well as they might.
