... would be a young plant of Plantago lanceolata, but I don't have the confidence to call this anything more specific that Plantago sp.
[I've observed that younger plants of P. lanceolata have less lanceolate leaves, but I don't have the nerve to extropolate back this far.]
Lots of this grows in my "lawn", and it looks just like the photo at the moment. Go for it!

Caldy Cliffs are clay. Plantago media does not occur as a native in Cheshire, only on seeded roadverges.
