Thanks, Steve - the image looks red because it is my rather orange living room light. The centipede is an off-white / cream colour - that is what caught my eye.
I have captured him anyway and am taking him for verification tomorrow. :-)

Colour is always problematical in images. On probabiltiy it is very likely to be St. subterranea, but Geophilus electricus is not uncommon and worth checking for!
