Oops, how embarrassing, sorry. Yesterday I didn't know what a Linnet was and now I'm falling over them. What threw me off a little, apart from the birds being on different sections of my walk, was that the 1st two seemed to be flitting about as a pair, whereas these were definitely acting as a flock. The good thing is that I now have some (hazy) photos of the fronts of the birds as well.
At the moment, Linnets are pairing up, but still feeding in flocks, as they do for most of the year. I saw lots together today on a local heath...feeding together, but pairing off as they flew into trees when disturbed.
