You are in the right sort of location to look out for a Rosefinch, certainly. My mum, in the NW corner of Scotland, has them as a garden bird, some years!
They actually look more like a Sparrow or a Bunting than a finch like a Redpoll. They don't have a short, sharp beak like a Redpoll and are bigger. Unless you are lucky enough to find a an adult male, they are really a pretty drab bird, to be honest.
