Not too common in my part of the world. This was the product of a whole mornings effort to get an image of a Grey Wagtail. The combination of relatively low light in a deep canal tunnel cutting and a constantly wagging wagtail made this task somewhat difficult.

Grey Wagtail - what a mis-nomer?

Super shots Chris. What a shame this brilliant species goes under its rather drab name. There are few prettier and brighter birds than a perky adult male grey wagtail - is there a more vibrant colour on any British bird than that yellow on its vent? It knocks you in the eye, in the best possible way.

Thanks Keith, I agree it's a dull sounding name for what is a lovely colourful bird. I suppose Yellow Wagtail was already taken, perhaps we should have been more inventive with the name.

Agreed - lovely shots. I've seen a few around here but they move too quick for me.

Well worth the effort!

Excellent shots, I know exactly what you are talking about with the position and light levels. They do seem to like that habitat.

Lovely pics Chris. I see one regularly right outside my local pub in the town centre, picking up scraps from the cobbled road - but I rarely have my camera with me on those occasions!
