Amazing what a bit of sun can do. Surveying for nests for the BTO monitoring scheme spotted a bat fly out from a small woods adjacent a pond on my left. It was about Robin sized and had relatively slow wing beats. It proceeded to hawk after insects about 3 to 4 meters above the ground (acid grassland) on my right. I had a lovely view of it for at least five minutes before a dog walker came along and the bat decided to move on.
