This is the northern race of herring gull, Larus argentatus argentatus, showing darker back and wings with smaller black wing tips than the British race, Larus argentatus argenteus.
I thought that the yellow legs indicate that this is the British Lesser Black-backed Gull. We have a number of them around the area at the moment as seen in photo of one on the chimney in the observation column above.
